New Boost of Energy for India and Myanmar Relations

If there is a pipeline between India and Myanmar to meet the natural gas fuel needs of Northeast India, new possibilities for cooperation in the energy sector will open up.

In recent years, the importance of natural gas in India's sustainable energy security has increased tremendously. Apart from that, the idea that natural gas can be an important factor in sustainable energy security is also gaining recognition in Indian energy policy circles. The Government of India has also set a target of increasing the share of natural gas in our energy mix to 15 per cent by 2030 . From this, it can be said that the Government of India has made it clear that it intends to make the Indian economy an air-based economy.

Compared to other biofuels, natural gas is not only efficient but also environmentally friendly . That is why India is moving towards increasing the share of natural gas in its primary energy mix. In this regard, steps have been taken in the last few years to develop a market for natural gas in various parts of India . In this regard, the Prime Minister's Ujwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched in 2016 to enable India to supply clean fuel for cooking. Under this scheme, the Government of India has provided LPG for domestic use. Started giving cylinder connections. Since the inception of the scheme, LPG consumption in India has gone up by 55 per cent in 2014. Connections have reached more than 90 per cent of households today.

India was able to take such a big leap because it had set a target of providing a total of 8 crore new connections by 2020 . During this period, 6 crore new additions have been made. As of 2014, the city had a gas fuel distribution network in only 66 districts in India. However, work has started to bring 174 more districts under the gas fuel distribution network by 2018. Apart from that, the government has set a target to bring about 400 districts under the gas fuel distribution network in the near future. In addition, India will supply 10,000 CNG in the coming decade. The objective is to set up a fuel supply center. Accordingly, by the year 2018, the country's CNG. The number of fuel supply centers has also reached 1400. Importantly, in the global marketAs the number of new gas fuel suppliers continues to grow, India also has a number of options available to meet its future needs.

In many states of India , the network of vessels for domestic use is also expanding . It is learned that a network of additional 14,239 km of new fuel vessels is being set up to ensure supply of wind fuel to various parts of the country . Looking at the trend of use of gas fuel, India has the highest number of consumers using gas fuel mainly in the western and to some extent in the northern part of India . Northeast Indian states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura are believed to have abundant natural gas reserves. The Paltana power plant, which generates wind-based electricity, exports electricity from the state of Tripura to neighboring Bangladesh .

India has embarked on a journey towards connecting the states of Northeast India to the national wind fuel network . Once this process is completed, the states of Northeast India can further strengthen their economies by supplying gas fuel to other states. In view of this, the Government of India has been taking strategic measures in the last few years for the economic development of the states of Northeast India, increase the transport system there and raise the living standards of the people there . In such a scenario, the supply of efficient and environmentally friendly natural gas can play an important role in the economic development of the states of Northeast India as well as in the growth of transport.

The government plans to bring some of the key districts in Northeast India under the city air fuel distribution network in three phases by 2030. In fact, the demand for natural gas in the region is 4.4 million metric cubic meters (mmscmd). According to the report on Northeast India under Hydrocarbon Vision 2030, the demand for natural gas is estimated to be 29.4 million metric cubic meters (mmscmd) in the states of Northeast India by 2030 . At the same time, the deficit between natural gas demand and supply is estimated at 8.7 million metric cubic meters (mmscmd).

The port of Dharma is being developed in Orissa to ensure energy security in the eastern region of India. The port will import 5 million metric tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually. Or LNG. The port will be a major help to the city's gas-fuel distribution system, which meets the energy needs of fertilizer projects in northern India.

Natural gas fuel prices have fallen worldwide . Against this backdrop, India's supply of natural gas from the port of Dharma in its eastern region is compounded. But at the same time, given the potential for abundant natural gas reserves at the newly developed power plant off the coast of neighboring Myanmar, we need to consider how we can benefit from it. Given the geographical proximity and proximity of India's northeastern region to Myanmar, it may be in India's interest to explore the possibility of India and Myanmar cooperating with each other in the natural gas trade. India to build a gas pipeline from Myanmar to India via Bangladesh in mid-2000The attempt was initiated. At the same time, due to some differences with Bangladesh, India had proposed a direct flight from Myanmar to India. However, the proposal from India was not successful and then Myanmar allowed China to build air routes between the two countries . China is one of the many sources of imported natural gas. Importantly, the need and demand for energy in China continues to grow tremendously .

At present, there are not enough natural gas reserves available for export to Myanmar . According to available information, Myanmar is considering importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet its own needs. At the same time , some other reports say that Myanmar is considering new proposals for its energy this year . Now, if Myanmar explores new natural gas reserves, India can certainly propose a new aviation that could bring in additional natural gas from Myanmar to the northeastern part of India.

Given the geographical proximity and proximity of India's northeastern region to Myanmar, India should definitely consider taking advantage of the ongoing developments in Myanmar's energy sector. It is important to note that this type of air carrier, built directly between two countries or mediated by a third country , could be an affordable alternative to air fuel transportation. Another important point is that as India seeks to renew its ties with the SAARC countries (Southeast Asia) , the idea of a natural gas pipeline between India and Myanmar, if realized, could be an important symbol of mutual cooperation and regional cooperation.

One thing that Myanmar can certainly consider here is that the western part of Myanmar, the northeastern part of India, is the surest, largest market for natural gas fuel in the near future. At the same time, India is ready to import additional reserves of natural gas fuel from Myanmar in any way possible to meet the demand for natural gas fuels in Northeast India . If we look at all these facts in a neutral way, the air fuel system in the northeastern states of IndiaAnd they are complementary to the potential for sustainable energy in Myanmar. With this in mind, India needs to rethink the idea of building a natural gas-fuel pipeline from Myanmar to India to meet the energy needs and demands of its northeastern states.
