Due to doubts about the usefulness of the Ram Mandir issue in Ayodhya in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has decided to postpone the Ram Mandir campaign till the elections, as suggested by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. According to reports from several intelligence agencies, the campaign was postponed as the Ram Mandir issue would not actually benefit the BJP and in Hindi-dominated areas. It has also become clear that the Supreme Court will not hold any hearing on the Ayodhya issue for the next two months.
On January 29 this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP-Raloa alliance requested the Supreme Court to allow the government to hand over 67.703 acres of land to its rightful owner, which it has held for 25 years. The real ownership of this land is with an organization called Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. This organization has been set up by the loyalists of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad to build a temple on the disputed land. Both Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh have been at the forefront of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and are pressuring the Modi government to enact a law to build a temple or implement it. The demand was reiterated when BJP president Amit Shah took a dip in the 'Sangmat' at the recent Kumbh Mela and asked many devotees behind the government to build a grand temple on the site of Ram Janmabhoomi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an interview to ANI on the first day of the new year. Based on the points raised by them, it is possible to estimate the policy of the government in this regard. Modi made it clear that no executive decision related to the Ram temple would be taken until the court process is completed. The BJP government is trying to sidestep the demand for such a decision by going to the Supreme Court.
Blaming the Congress party, Modi said, "No one can deny the fact that those who have been in power for the last 70 years have not suggested any solution to the Ayodhya issue".[1] The day Modi chose to play his role in the Ram Janmabhoomi issue through this interview is also important. He clarified his position exactly three days before the Supreme Court set a date for hearing the appeal of the Allahabad High Court hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case.
If the Supreme Court approves the decision to transfer the land from the government to the trust, Modi will emerge as a popular leader and his chances of returning to power will increase. And if that doesn't happen, it's still a way to get more involved with the government.
In the past, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its affiliates have made great efforts to get the government to address this issue. In October last year, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had demanded legislation for the construction of the temple and insisted that a decision on the matter be taken later in the month.
Bhagwat made the demand while addressing an annual function at the Sangh headquarters in Nagpur. Bhagwat deliberately decided to take up the demand a few weeks before the five Assembly elections and a few months before the Lok Sabha elections, so that the BJP would benefit in the elections. But the BJP suffered a major blow in major Hindi-speaking states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Mohan Bhagwat had said, “Although there is evidence that there was a temple on this land in the past, this place of birth has not been given to build a temple. Some in the community are trying to prolong the decision-making process by creating new obstacles in the judicial process. The endurance of the people of the land should not be seen. ” Mohan Bhagwat made the remarks in the presence of Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and K Alphonse.
Bhagwat's statements need to be understood. He said, “The temple needs to be built from the point of view of self-respect; At the same time, the construction of the temple will increase unity and harmony in the country. In the path of national interest, some fundamentalists are creating obstacles for their own benefit by engaging in ethnic politics based on their principles. In order to thwart such conspiracies, the ownership of the land must be decided immediately and the government must enact the appropriate and necessary legislation to pave the road for the construction of a temple on grand scale. ”
While Bhagwat said a new law needs to be enacted, other members of the Sangh Parivar are suggesting an ordinance to start the process of building a temple on the disputed land.
"The issue of Ram Mandir is a matter of faith, it cannot be challenged in court," Bhagwat said, adding that he was attacking the very foundations of the country's constitution. Every group in the society has its own places of worship, not just Hindus. Modern society is built on rational framework and law, not on issues of faith. It is strange to say that the construction of the temple is necessary from the point of view of 'self-respect'. If this statement is studied carefully, it is clear that it cannot withstand any test. Most importantly, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh does not represent all Hindus. The official membership of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is in the bouquet. After the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP got 31% of the vote. This is the best BJP figure to date. Therefore, BJP or Sangh Parivar represents Hindus in the country,
On the contrary, in the 80's and 90's, with the support of Sangh and BJP, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad-led Ram Janmabhoomi movement gained momentum and the society split. Overall social cohesion was shattered, peaceful coexistence was disturbed. A large section of people who believe in Sanatan Hindu Dharma and practice it in their lives were horrified by the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. The feeling that the true Sanatan Dharma has been swallowed up by the aggressors of Hindutva has taken root in the minds of these Hindus.
Whether the Modi government came to power in 2014 and subsequently demanded the construction of a Ram temple at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi or ran to the Supreme Court to transfer the land to the organization, all these efforts are being made to win votes for the BJP in the forthcoming elections.
With the Modi government losing ground in the economic sphere, the question of the demand for construction of a Ram temple came up, in fact it was brought up. Unemployment has multiplied many times over. Social security and ethnic unity have been disrupted. Speeches and rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and other leaders are making people feel restless and bored. As disillusionment grows among the non-voting constituencies of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the BJP, their problems also need urgent attention.
The BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) used their methods to divide the liberals, the left and the moderate ideologues in the society and to label them as 'traitors'. But now we need to go beyond that and become a new issue.
Opposition's always have big nose against the ruling party BJP and they say BJP has nothing but caste and religious divisions to get elected and come to power in Hindi states. Some think that through this polarisation, they can find their way to Delhi. For this, an environment has been created on the basis of issues like mob rule, love-jihad, cow slaughter, urban naxalism. That is why the issue of Ram temple. Some claim that this will benefit not only North India but also the South. Overall, there are internal differences between the Sangh Parivar and the BJP over the Ram Mandir issue. That is why it has been decided to suspend the movement temporarily
