The Pashtun community in Pakistan has once again started agitation. The Pakistan Army is making every effort to bring this movement under control. Asif Gafoor, a spokesman for the Pakistan Army, alleged that the Pashtun Tehfuz Movement (PTM) was receiving support from Indian and Afghan intelligence agencies. Therefore, the Pashtun people should not take notice of this movement. ”Pakistan has always pointed fingures on its neighbors for the atrocities, genocide and discomfort in the region of Balochistan. Pakistan has repeatedly said that India and Afghanistan are responsible for fomenting anti-national sentiment in Pakistan and fomenting racism there. So there is nothing surprising in Gafoor's statement. On the contrary, his role was as expected.

In fact, the problem of the Pashtun people is created by the system of Pakistan. As a nation, Pakistan has been imposing Islamic culture and Urdu language on its people. Pakistan has never cared about the independent ethnic identity, regionalism and linguistic culture of the various groups in that country.

The insistence on maintaining an independent ethnic or linguistic identity in order to gain political rights is considered anti-national and therefore controversial. Whether the group is Bengali, Pashtun or Baluchi. Pakistan alleges that India has plans to destroy Pakistan and divide it. The point that India will continue to make such efforts is always pointed at the creation of Bangladesh. The issue of Balochistan presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2016 was seen from this point of view.

It is not easy for India to support the Pashtun Tehfuz movement. This case may be reversed. Pakistan can respond by supporting Kashmiri separatists and Khalistani terrorists. Moreover, it is important to note that this movement has so far succeeded without the financial and other support of any foreign power. The unprecedented rallies that are taking place in large numbers in different parts of Pakistan are not sales rallies or they cannot be priced in money.

Remove checkposts forcibly erected in Pashtun-dominated tribal areas, dismantle landmines, search for and release missing Pashtun activists, and hold judicial inquiries into arrests and repression by the Pakistani military over the years. These demands of PTM are just and clear. However, the Pakistani government has branded them as traitors and traitors. Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Pakistani military have acknowledged that much needs to be done in the Pashtun tribal region. However, he claimed that the Pakistani government was not responsible for the Pashtun problem. On the contrary, PTM's actions are anti-national, says Khan.

In January 2018, Young Pashtun activists were assassinated in Karachi and the agitation erupted. Naqibullah Mehsud was assassinated by Pakistani soldiers. The news spread like wildfire. Protests and demonstrations began in South Waziristan, where Mehsud lives. Within a few days, the salt spread throughout the Pashtun province and then across the country. Large gatherings were held in Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Swat, Dera Ismail, Bannu and the capital Islamabad. The Baloch and Hazara minorities, who have been crushed under the guise of Pakistani government and military repression, also joined the PTM movement. The voice of PTM's agitation and demands began to reverberate across the country. Seeing the response to the PTM movement, the Pakistani military's intelligence department was woken up.

The Pashtuns in the Pashtun province bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan have long demanded an independent Pashtunistan. The nature of this movement has been nationwide since before the formation of Pakistan. The Pakistani government fears that the success of the PTM movement will intensify the separatist movement in Pakistan. If that happens, the country will be divided, and other ethnic groups will be forced to fight for their identities.

The PTM movement has always been non-violent. The aim of this movement is not to create chaos in the country or to divide the country. In fact, this movement is demanding its constitutional rights within the framework of democracy. The PTM leadership is fully aware that the movement will lose its current support if there is evidence that foreign powers are helping the movement.

Manzoor Pashtun, the supreme leader of the Pashtun movement, is a leader who believes in democratic values. He is adamant that the problems of the Pashtun people should be solved within the framework of the Constitution. However, he is seen publicly criticizing the Pakistani military. To date, no Pashtun-led party or organization has directly criticized the army. Approved do so without hesitation. Its biggest blow is to their movement. Members associated with the movement are being arrested on terrorism charges. Many are dying suspiciously. The movement is portrayed as an organization dancing to the tune of India. The media has also been banned from publishing news or articles about the movement.

It is clear that the Pakistan Army will continue to try to crush the Pashtun movement in any way possible. The army has gone so far as to declare the citizens protesting for just demands as anti-national. But beyond that, the military is likely to label the PTM as racist, racist and terrorist.

Pakistan's ruling Tehreek-e-Insaf party had offered tickets to PTM leaders in last year's elections. However, it had no effect. The PTM is not close to any political ideology. The organization has succeeded in limiting its identity to a civil rights movement. In fact, it is safe to say that this is the real strength of this organization.

Pakistan understands that India has an invisible hand behind everything that is happening in Pakistan. This perception has become so strong that Pakistan is not even ready to understand the facts. It would be wise for the Pakistani military to resolve their grievances before the Pashtun movement becomes more aggressive and powerful. Without doing so, military action against the Pashtun people would be tantamount to strengthening the resolve of the Pashtuns and other ethnic groups. If that happens, it will only complicate matters for the Pakistani military.
